Staying AliveJoin Yosemite Climbing Rangers as we go through safe rappelling and belay practices geared toward multi pitch climbing. Utilizing these skills on Yosemite's walls would greatly reduce the number of serious climbing accidents and fatalities in Yosemite National Park. This clinic will take approximately 1.5 - 2hrs, we will teach basic skills for multipitch rappelling such as extended rappels using a "third hand", testing before transferring systems, and how to safely and efficiently perform multipitch rappels in a closed system.
Skills recommended but not required for this course:
-Knowledge of rappelling and belaying using an ATC or tube device
-Know how to tie figure eight knot, friction hitch, and overhand knot
Equipment Required:
-Harness
-Belay/Rappel Device
-At least 3 locking carabiners
-At least one 60cm or 120cm sling
-PAS or some sort of lanyard/sling to anchor yourself to the wall besides the rope.
